The Business Incubation Center (BIC) at the University of Peshawar marked a historic milestone with the launch of its first startup cohort.
PESHAWAR(Report by Fatima Jafar) According to global Times news agency Europe,On Thursday, the event launching ceremony attended by Special Assistant to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Industries Abdul Karim Tordher as a chief guest while other distinguished guests, industry leaders, and aspiring entrepreneur attended.In the event, Dr. Shakeel Khan, Head of BIC, opened the ceremony with an inspiring address, emphasizing the pivotal role of the incubation center in fostering entrepreneurial talent.Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Industries Abdul Karim Tordher, addressed the gathering, offering words of encouragement to the startups and highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurship.Following his remarks, former President of the Chamber of Commerce, Fawad Ishaq, reaffirmed the industry’s full support for the incubation center, pledging collaboration and mentorship opportunities for emerging businesses.The Vice Chancellor of the University of Peshawar, Professor Dr. Muhammad Naeem Qazi welcomed the startups and witnessing this landmark achievement. In his speech, he underscored the university’s commitment to fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation.Industry leaders also joined hands in supporting the initiative. Fazal Moqeem Khan, President of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce expressed his enthusiasm for strengthening industry-academia linkages.Similarly, British Council representative Ms.Tahira Kaleem extended her support for fostering innovation and global collaboration opportunities for young entrepreneurs.The inaugural cohort comprises 25 promising startups spanning diverse industries, including environmental conservation, edtech, fintech, and other emerging sectors. Notably, over 10 startups in this cohort are dedicated to environmental sustainability, reflecting BIC’s commitment to responsible and impact-driven entrepreneurship.Over the next six months, these startups will undergo an intensive incubation program, benefiting from expert mentorship, business development training, and networking opportunities.Upon completion, they will be well-positioned to scale their businesses and contribute to the economic and social development of the region.The launch of this first cohort marks a defining moment for the University of Peshawar, reinforcing its role as a hub for entrepreneurial excellence. BIC remains committed to empowering young innovators and bridging the gap between academia and industry to drive sustainable economic growth.
