Over Ceremony Held at GPGC Mardan

MARDAN:(Special Representative)According to Global times News Agancy Europe,A graceful and well-attended charge-taking over and welcome ceremony was held at Government Postgraduate College (GPGC) Mardan to mark the assumption of charge of Grade 21 by Prof. Muhammad Abrar Akhundzada as Principal of the college. He succeeded Prof. Syed Taskeen Shah, who has completed his tenure as Principal and will continue serving the institution as Professor in the Department of Statistics. Both distinguished academicians belong to the Department of Statistics. It was a historic occasion where promotion to Grade 21 was given to college professors.Prof. Muhammad Abrar Akhundzada previously served as Principal of GPGC Mardan and was most recently serving as Principal of GPGC Takht Bhai. A delegation of professors from GPGC Takht Bhai accompanied him to GPGC Mardan and bid him a warm farewell while extending their best wishes for his new assignment. Faculty members from both institutions congratulated Prof. Abrar and expressed confidence in his leadership and vision.Upon his arrival at GPGC Mardan, student proctors warmly welcomed Prof. Abrar by showering flower petals, while faculty members presented bouquets and extended their heartfelt greetings.The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Prof. Abdur Rehman, Department of Islamiat, whose melodious recitation included verses from Surah Al-Mutaffifin (83:18–19): “Kallā inna kitābal-abrāri lafī ‘illiyyīn. Wa mā adrāka mā ‘illiyyūn.”
“Indeed, the record of the righteous (Abrar) is in Illiyyin. And what can make you know what Illiyyin is?”The coincidence of the word “Abrar” appearing in the recited verses was appreciated by the audience and added a meaningful touch to the occasion.The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Sajid Hussain, Department of Political Science, who served as Stage Secretary. Prof. Fayaz Akhtar, Department of Pakistan Studies, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the academic and administrative contributions of both Prof. Taskeen Shah and Prof. Abrar Akhundzada.Mr. Ehsan Ullah, College Librarian, paid a rich tribute to both outgoing and incoming principals, acknowledging their dedication to academic excellence and institutional development. Prof. Jamal Shah, Coordinator of the Joint Management Council (JMC), delivered a humorous yet heartfelt tribute that was warmly received by the audience. Prof. Amjad Ali, Department of Economics, GPGC Takht Bhai, also shared his remarks and paid tribute to Prof. Abrar’s leadership and services.Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Syed Taskeen Shah reflected on his tenure as Principal and thanked the faculty and staff for their cooperation and support. Prof. Muhammad Abrar Akhundzada expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and reaffirmed his commitment to academic excellence, institutional progress, and collaborative leadership. He was also grateful for being promoted to Grade 21. The concluding remarks were delivered by Prof. Aurangzeb Shirazi, Department of Urdu, who appreciated the contributions of both educationists and emphasized the importance of continuity, dedication, and teamwork in higher education institutions.The ceremony concluded with a collective prayer led by Prof. Mujahid Shah, Department of Islamiat, seeking Allah’s blessings for the continued progress and prosperity of the institution and its leadership.A cake-cutting ceremony was also held to commemorate the occasion. Later, a high tea was served to the participants under the supervision of Usman Ali Khan, Lecturer in Statistics, and Munawar Javed, Lecturer in Economics.The event reflected the spirit of mutual respect, academic camaraderie, and institutional continuity that has long characterized Government Postgraduate College Mardan.
