Fumigation Drive Reduces Spread of Viral Diseases in One of Karachi’s Most Deprived Areas

.On the instructions of Zulfiqar Ali Abro, Senior Director of Municipal Services at Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), a fumigation spray was conducted today (Friday) in Essa Nagri to curb the spread of mosquito-borne diseases. This proactive measure comes at a crucial time, as Essa Nagri, one of Karachi’s marginalized areas, faces a serious threat from these diseases.

In recent weeks, a significant number of residents in Essa Nagri have reported illnesses such as dengue fever, severe stomach pain, and vomiting, all attributed to the surge in the mosquito population. Chikungunya, another mosquito-borne disease, is also beginning to spread in the area, further exacerbating the health crisis.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, KMC took immediate action by launching a fumigation drive to reduce the mosquito population and limit the spread of these diseases. Kashif Hussain, Deputy Director of Municipal Services, KMC, played a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of this operation.

The residents of Essa Nagri have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to KMC, Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP), National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) and all other authorities, involved in this timely intervention. They acknowledged the efforts made to safeguard their health and well-being, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration to address public health challenges in the area.

This fumigation drive is a vital step toward improving living conditions in Essa Nagri. It underscores the importance of sustained community engagement and prompt action to mitigate health risks in vulnerable communities.
