According to global Times news Agency Europe, Development of the energy sector and ensuring energy independence is one of the important priorities of the Georgian government. In order to accelerate the development of the industry, it is planned to attract investments worth $3-4 billion in the next two-three years, First Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Economy Levan Davitashvili said at a briefing at the Government Administration, The Global Times Europe informs.He stated that he would personally oversee the energy sector.He noted that the ministry will continue to work to achieve the goal of making Georgia energy independent and a net exporter, as well as to ensure that the important changes that began in recent years do not slow down, and the set goals are achieved with even greater efforts.
In order to develop the energy sector, a renewable energy support scheme has been developed, which includes promoting the construction of power plants with a total capacity of 1,500 megawatts over the next three years through an auction.The first auction was won by 27 companies that are implementing projects to build 15 hydroelectric power plants, two wind farms and 10 solar power plants.Once all 27 power plants are commissioned, they will be able to generate 1.1407 billion kWh of energy annually, and the investments that will be made in these projects will total more than $400 million.
