Statement to the Public OpinionOn
behalf of the Syrian Democratic CouncilTo the daughters and sons of our great Syrian people, we greet you today as we welcome with joy and pride a long-awaited historic moment, the fall and departure of the tyrannical symbol Bashar al-Assad, this great achievement is the fruit of your determination to move towards freedom, dignity and equality, despite many years of repression and abuse. You have courageously stood up to the oppression and made great sacrifices, as the blood of the martyrs and wounded, the cries of detainees and missing persons, and the struggle of the displaced in the diaspora have all drawn a straight line towards freedom. Thanks to your firm will and belief in your right to a decent life, today we have triumphed over fear and injustice. The Syrian Democratic Council congratulates our great people on this defining moment and pledges to continue working to lay the foundations of a pluralistic democratic state that achieves equality and justice, respects diversity, safeguards human rights and is based on the values of equal citizenship. We believe that this historic moment is the beginning of a new path and that we all have a great task ahead of us in building and reconstruction, drafting a modern constitution that reflects the will of the people, and achieving transitional justice that does justice to the victims and heals the wounds of the past.We will work with all Syrian national, cultural, societal and political forces in a spirit of dialogue and responsibility, to establish a new Syria that embraces all its citizens of different national, religious and sectarian backgrounds without exclusion or marginalization. History today marks the beginning of a new era, one governed by the will of the free Syrian people, determined to turn the pain of the past into a driving force for building a secure, prosperous and just future.Long live a free, united, and democratic Syria.8 December 2024Syrian Democratic Council
