Peshawar:(Special Correspondent) According to Global Times Media Europe, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Prisons Iftikharullah Jan along with IG Prisons Rehan Gul Khattak paid a detailed visit to Mardan Central Jail. On this occasion, the concerned officers gave a detailed briefing on the overall administrative situation of the jail, security arrangements, facilities provided to the prisoners, correctional programs, medical facilities, cleanliness situation and ongoing development projects. The Special Assistant inspected different parts of the jail and reviewed the barracks, kitchen, hospital, meeting room, training centers and other departments. He also met the prisoners, listened to their problems and directed the concerned authorities to adopt the best attitude towards the prisoners as per the requirements of law and human rights and provide them with all basic facilities in a timely manner. Iftikharullah Jan said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is taking serious steps to transform the prisons not just places of imprisonment but into centers of reform, education and welfare. He stressed that the technical training, education, health, psychological guidance and rehabilitation programs of the prisoners should be made more effective so that after their release they can become responsible and useful citizens of the society. On this occasion, IG Prisons Rehan Khattak also informed the Special Assistant about the ongoing reforms in the Prisons Department, modern security system, administrative improvements and future plans. The Special Assistant, while appreciating the performance of the Prisons Department, directed that transparency, discipline, welfare of prisoners and high standards of security should be ensured in the prisons at all costs. At the end of the visit, Special Assistant Iftikharullah Jan reiterated the commitment that in accordance with the vision of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Khan Afridi, the Prisons Department would be made an exemplary institution through modern reforms, better facilities and an effective administrative system in all the prisons of the province.
