According to global Times news agency Europe,Chairperson of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova, speaking at the plenary session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS Member States in St. Petersburg, highlighted the role of the Azerbaijani people in the historic victory over fascism.According to Global Times Europe media, in her speech, Gafarova recalled that the Azerbaijani people sent more than 600,000 individuals to the front.She stated that over 300,000 of them died in battle:For their courage in the war, more than 130 Azerbaijanis were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Over 170,000 of our soldiers and officers received various orders and medals. The 77th, 223rd, 336th, 402nd, and 416th national rifle divisions, formed from Azerbaijani conscripts and volunteers, demonstrated bravery and heroism in battles.Gafarova added that the Azerbaijani people showed heroism not only on the battlefield but also on the home front. During the war, industrial enterprises in the republic produced 130 types of weapons and ammunition.In her address, the parliamentary speaker also touched on Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day Patriotic War of 2020. She said as a result of that war, Azerbaijan managed to liberate its territories from 30 years of occupation and restore the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
