Georgian speaker accuses German ambassador of becoming ‘opposition propagandist’

According to global times News Agency Europe,The Chairman of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, accused the German Ambassador in Tbilisi of becoming a mouthpiece for Georgian opposition propaganda, The Global times Europe media.The German ambassador has already become an opposition propagandist. This is not criticism, this is already a demonstration of a political position,” the speaker stated during the Imedi LIVE program Papuashvili also touched upon projects funded by the European Union and member countries in Georgia. The speaker expressed particular concern about the activities of the European Endowment for Democracy. He stated that before the presentation of the bill “on transparency of foreign influence” in 2023, he addressed an official letter to the EU Ambassador in Georgia: "I requested information about whom and for what purpose the European Endowment for Democracy finances. But the ambassador refused to provide this information to the chairman of the Georgian Parliament.Papuashvili believes that such an approach is an attempt to influence Georgia’s sovereign decisions and internal political processes.According to the speaker, after the start of the war in Ukraine, when Georgia tried to stay away from escalation, sanctions, and other potentially harmful risks, it led to an unfair approach towards the country.Papuashvili emphasized that it was precisely the disregard for these conditions and the restrained position of the Georgian government that caused the country to fail to obtain candidate status for the European Union in 2022.
