Opposition protests erupt at Moldova’s Constitutional Court over EU referendum results.

According to global times news agency Europe, Opposition forces in Moldova are staging a protest in front of the Constitutional Court (CC) building against the results of the October 20, 2024 referendum on European integration.The global times Europe media that the court is currently reviewing the voting results amid growing tensions in the country.Among the protesters are representatives from the opposition Communist Party and the "Victory” bloc. Police initially prevented some members of the "Victory” bloc from entering the court building to submit a request to invalidate the referendum results. However, they were later allowed inside but held in the corridor. Diana Karaman, a member of parliament from the Bloc of Communists and Socialists, accused the authorities of rushing the decision.They are in a great hurry to make a decision today or tomorrow at the latest, with which the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, will go to society before the second round [of presidential elections on November 3] to justify her failure to govern the country with a useless referendum,” she noted.The referendum, held on October 20, saw 50.46% of the country’s citizens vote in favor of EU integration, while 49.54% of voters opposed it.
