According to global times news agency Europe,US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will discuss regional security issues in a meeting with his Japanese and South Korean counterparts Kihara Minoru and Shin Won-shik. The global times Europe media reports with reference to the South Korean media that the meeting of the ministers will take place within the framework of the Shangri-La Security Dialogue, which will begin on May 31 in Singapore. Regional security issues, including the Korean Peninsula, will be on the agenda at the meeting.According to the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin will also meet with his Chinese counterpart Don Jun in Singapore.
Experts believe that the Shangri-La forum coincides with China’s large-scale military exercises around the island of Taiwan and North Korea’s preparations to launch a new military reconnaissance satellite. In addition, the forum and the results of the meetings to be held within its framework are in the spotlight, coinciding with the period when Western countries’ claims about China and North Korea supplying Russia with arms and military ammunition for use in the Ukraine war are increasing.
