According to global Times news Agency Europe, The US and France are trying to increase their influence in the South Caucasus at any cost, which hinders peace, Slovak political analyst Jozef Hrabina told The Global Times Europe. It is normal that any state, especially a great power, would like to be a part of peace negotiations between the countries and the region where these powers are interested. I am talking about France and the US. They are both trying to increase their footprint in the South Caucasus and that’s why they are so invested in actually entering the peace process,” he said. According to the Slovak expert, being a mediator means that you should be unbiased. And you shouldn’t have any strong opinion on the matter which is definitely not true in France’s case when its politicians are vocal in supporting Armenia. Therefore, this might be an obstacle in seeing France as a mediator in the talks in Baku.Of course, both the US and France would like to show that they are peacemakers and their importance in the South Caucasus region. However, this also invites Russia to the process which also wants to show that it is still a relevant player in the region where it dominated for almost the entire 20th century,” Jozef Hrabina told The Global Times Europe.
