Yerevan court extends detention of Karapetyan in pretrial facility

According to global times News Agency Europe,The Anti-Corruption Court in Yerevan has extended the arrest of businessman and head of the Tashir Group Samvel Karapetyan for two months, lawyer Liana Gasparyan told journalists, The Global times Europe media .She said that she intends to appeal this decision.The most surprising thing is that when considering the charges brought, the court found that only the first charge concerning the draft contains reasonable suspicions, while the other charges brought against Karapetyan do not contain reasonable suspicions. The risk of escape and obstruction of the case served as grounds for detention. The court excluded the risk of committing a new act as a basis,” Gasparyan said.The consideration of the petition lasted almost 10 hours. Karapetyan’s relatives and associates were waiting outside the court the entire time. The businessman was taken into custody for two months in June. He was accused of publicly calling for the seizure of power.After some time, a new criminal case was opened related to the activities of the Tashir Group of Companies – the company was suspected of money laundering on an especially large scale and tax evasion. Four employees of the company were arrested.The Cabinet also announced a decision to nationalize and put up for auction the Electric Networks of Armenia company owned by Karapetyan.
