WHO warns 80% of medical operations in Afghanistan could cease by June due to funding shortage.

According to global Times news agency Europe,The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that without additional funding, it will be forced to shut down up to 80% of the medical facilities it supports in Afghanistan by June this year, potentially impacting 1.8 million people.The global Times Europe media, citing WHO, that Afghanistan is facing the risk of outbreaks of infectious diseases such as measles, malaria, and dengue fever. The country continues its fight against polio, which remains endemic in only two countries—Afghanistan and Pakistan.The situation has been exacerbated following the withdrawal of the US from WHO and the cessation of American funding, threatening the global measles monitoring system. In the first two months of 2025 alone, Afghanistan reported 16,000 suspected measles cases and 111 fatalities.Since the Taliban took control in 2021, Afghanistan has faced international isolation and a lack of official partnerships with foreign countries. WHO warns that the collapse of the healthcare system could lead to a humanitarian crisis.
