Ukraine unveils memorial corner
honoring Azerbaijan’s National Hero Kalyaninov

According to global times News Agency Europe,On July 26, the State Flight Academy in Kropyvnytskyi, Ukraine, hosted a ceremony to present a memorial corner dedicated to Azerbaijan’s National Hero, Aleksandr Kalyaninov, The Global times Europe media.Initiated by the academy’s staff with support from Ukrainian MP Roma Hrishchuk and the embassy team, the tribute includes a dedicated auditorium named after Kalyaninov and a thematic exhibition detailing his life, education, aviation career, and the tragic incident that earned him national recognition. Currently, more than 60 cadets from Azerbaijan are studying at State Flight Academy of Ukraine.During the meeting, future steps were discussed to deepen cooperation between the academy and aviation institutions in Azerbaijan.Ambassador Husyev expressed gratitude for honoring Kalyaninov’s legacy and strengthening Ukrainian-Azerbaijani aviation ties.Aleksandr Kalyaninov was posthumously recognized for his actions on December 25, 2024, when an AZAL aircraft was shot down over Russian territory. Thanks to the professionalism of Captain Igor Kshnyakin and co-pilot Kalyaninov, 29 of the 67 people aboard were rescued.
