Political expert: World Urban Forum to
be held in Baku will be remembered for its outcomes.

According to global Times news agency Europe,Baku is becoming a meeting place for important political figures, summits of prestigious organizations are held, and Azerbaijan hosts large-scale climate conferences such as COP29. The World Urban Forum to be held in the capital is one of such large-scale events, political expert Ulviyya Zulfigar told The global Times Europe media.Zulfigar recalled that the 13th session of the international event will take place on May 17-21, 2026:Global challenges have been discussed in Baku for a long time. These are challenges that cover political, economic, humanitarian and climate issues. The World Urban Forum was established by the UN-Habitat Program in 2001 and its first session was held in Kenya. The last session of the biennial event took place in Cairo, Egypt, in 2024. The Forum is the most prestigious and largest-attended event on urban planning. Thus, the last session, held in Cairo, was attended by 25,000 representatives from 182 countries.Zulfigar emphasized that important outcomes were achieved in a number of calls related to urban planning within the framework of the forum in Cairo:In Egypt, numerous problems arising from irregular urban planning and homelessness in cities such as Barcelona, Naples, Abu Dhabi, Rio de Janeiro, Vancouver, and others, especially in developing countries, were discussed and experiences were exchanged. The theme of the event to be held in Baku in 2026 will be “Housing the world: Safe and resilient cities and communities.” There is a large number of irregular and rapid urban development processes in the world. This process is also one of the challenges of our time. Because unplanned and rapid urban development also reduces access to clean water and sanitation, which are basic human rights principles. The forum to be held in Baku is also expected to be remembered with high results.
