*Former Pakistani test cricketers laud sports activities in KU*
JAWED SIDDIQUI KARACHI : The former test cricketers appreciated the sports activities and facilities available at the University of Karachi. They lauded the participation of the large numbers of students in different sports competitions held at the University of Karachi.
The ex-captains of the national cricket team Azhar Ali and Mohammad Hafiz along with the international hockey player, Olympian Qamar Ibrahim, the Director General Sports of the Higher Education Commission-Islamabad Javed Ali Memon, and others attended the closing ceremony of the KU Sports Gala 2024. The event was held at Professor Salimuzzaman Siddiqui Auditorium of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences of the University of Karachi on Thursday.
The KU Directorate of Physical Education, in collaboration with the KU Students’ Advisor Office, and KU Gymkhana Committee jointly organized the week-long event on the campus.
Addressing the closing ceremony, the KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi said that the advanced nations give special importance to sports because they believe that sports-related activities help promote positive trends in societies and motivate them a lot.
He mentioned that sports activities also help in creating discipline in our lives and provide opportunities for the youth to express and utilize their nature-given talents. He advised that sports culture needs to be promoted throughout the country and investment should be made in this sector.
“The University of Karachi is constantly trying to promote sports activities on the campus and also provides scholarships to encourage students involved in different games.” He shared that the KU in collaboration with the HEC-Islamabad would soon inaugurate a football ground and an academy in the nest stage on the campus.
The KU VC Khalid Iraqi informed the audience that with the help of the KU alumni, he would make the hockey ground functional and engage hockey experts for its revival on the campus. He announced that a sports gala would be held twice a year to give a good chance to students to showcase their talents in different games.
On this occasion, the former captain of the national cricket team Azhar Ali said that sports play a key role in the development of nations, as a nation we need to invest in sports because the future belongs to sports and educational institutions can play a key role in developing it. He shared that he was surprised to see different grounds on the campus and said that it is so rare to see playgrounds in educational institutions. Azhar Ali hoped that youngsters would achieve their goals with their dedication and hard work.
Meanwhile, another former captain of the national cricket team, Mohammad Hafeez said that in order to make a name and a place in any sport, it is necessary that a person has the ability to show talent on the field. He shared that it was good to know that a large number of girls and boys have taken part in different games during a week-long event. Hafeez mentioned that a talented person should not be worried about selection in teams as sooner or later he/she would become a part of a team on merit.
Olympian Qamar Ibrahim while congratulating the winning teams said that losing teams should not lose hope and try to learn from their mistakes to become a winner in the future. He said that as there are ups and downs in sports, there are also ups and downs in life, but games teach us how to deal with the situation and improve the quality of a game to become a winner.
On this occasion, the DG Sports HEC-Islamabad Javed Memon said that the participation of 4, 500 students in the interdepartmental sports gala proved that the University of Karachi encourages its students to participate in curricular and extracurricular activities. He shared that girls also took part in every competition which was a good sign and shows that they also like to showcase their talents if they get opportunities.
He said that the Federal HEC is providing facilities to the University of Karachi for the construction of a football ground and a football academy which would fulfill all the modern-day requirements. In the second phase, a resource center and physiology lab will be established on the campus
Javed Memon said that the purpose of promoting sports activities in educational institutions is that we want to see educated people in sports activities as players, coaches, umpires, and other sports-related positions in the future.
Assistant Director Sports HEC-Islamabad Muhammad Asif said that hard work never disappoints you at any level. He observed that we don’t have any plan when a player gets injured, and added that we have witnessed injuries that have ended the international careers of many players before they started.
Earlier, the KU Director of the Directorate of Physical Education Professor Dr Basit Ansari informed the audience that Sports Gala 24’ was inaugurated on February 28, and till March 06, 2024, 4, 500 students from around 40 departments participated in different games. He shared that a total of 156 teams including 46 cricket teams consisting of boys and girls. 28 football, 42 badminton, 16 basketball, 16 volleyball, and 08 athletics teams participated, and special races for the differently-abled students of the KU were also held during the sports gala.
Later, the KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi, former captains of the national cricket team Azhar Ali, and Mohammad Hafeez, international hockey player Qamar Ibrahim, and the DG Sports HEC-Islamabad Javed Ali Memon distributed prizes among the runners-up and winning teams.

کراچی (رپورٹ : جاوید صدیقی) جامعہ کراچی کے وائس چانسلر پروفیسرڈاکٹر خالد محمودعراقی نے کہا کہ پوری دنیا اور بالخصوص ترقی یافتہ قومیں کھیلوں کو خصوصی اہمیت دیتی ہیں کیوں کہ ان کی بدولت معاشرے میں مثبت رجحانات فروغ پاتے ہیں اور نوجوان نسل کی سوچ اور توانائی اعلی مقاصد کے حصول میں صرف ہوتی ہے۔اسپورٹس سرگرمیوں کی وجہ سے قوموں کی زندگیوں میں نظم وضبط پیداہوتاہے اور نوجوانوں کو قدرت کی عطاکردہ صلاحیتوں کے اظہاراور بروئے کارلانے کے مواقع میسرآتے ہیں۔ اسپورٹس کلچر کو پورے ملک میں فروغ اور اس شعبہ میں سرمایہ کاری کرنے کی ضرورت ہے۔جامعہ کراچی اسپورٹس کو فروغ دینے کے لئے مسلسل کوشاں ہے اور اسپورٹس سے وابستہ طلباوطالبات کی حوصلہ افزائی کے لئے انہیں اسکالرشپ بھی فراہم کرتی ہے۔انہوں نے جامعہ کراچی میں ہاکی گراؤنڈ کوفعال اور جامعہ کراچی ہونے والے اسپورٹس کے مقابلے سال میں ایک کی جگہ دومرتبہ کرنے کا بھی اعلان کیا۔ان خیالات کا اظہارانہوں نے ڈائریکٹوریٹ آف فزیکل ایجوکیشن جامعہ کراچی کے زیر اہتمام منعقدہ انٹرڈیپارٹمنٹل اسپورٹس گالا2024 ء کی اختتامی تقریب سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کیا جس میں جامعہ کراچی کے مختلف شعبہ جاتی کی 156 ٹیموں کے4500 طلباوطالبات نے حصہ لیا۔اس موقع پر رنراَپ اور مقابلہ جیتنے والی ٹیموں میں شیخ الجامعہ پروفیسرڈاکٹر خالد محمودعراقی،قومی کرکٹ ٹیم کے سابق کپتان اظہر علی،قومی کرکٹ ٹیم کے سابق کپتان محمد حفیظ،بین الاقوامی ہاکی پلیئر قمرابراہیم اورڈائریکٹر جنرل اسپورٹس ہائرایجوکیشن کمیشن پاکستان جاوید علی میمن انعامات بھی تقسیم کئے گئے۔ ڈاکٹر خالد عراقی نے مزید کہا کہ انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ جامعات میں صرف نصابی نہیں بلکہ غیر نصابی سرگرمیاں بھی ہوتی ہیں اور مجھے خوشی ہے کہ جامعہ کراچی میں یہ سلسلہ تواترکے ساتھ جاری ہے اور اس میں دن بدن اضافہ ہورہاہے۔ قومی کرکٹ ٹیم کے سابق کپتان اظہر علی نے کہا کہ اسپورٹس قوموں کی ترقی میں کلیدی کردار اداکرتاہے، من حیث القوم ہمیں اسپورٹس میں سرمایہ کاری کرنے کی ضرورت ہے کیونکہ مستقبل اسپورٹس کا ہے اور تعلیمی ادارے اس کو پروان چڑھانے میں کلیدی کردار اداکرسکتے ہیں۔ قومی کرکٹ ٹیم کے سابق کپتان محمد حفیظ نے کہا کہ کسی بھی کھیل میں نام اور جگہ بنانے کے لئے میدان میں صلاحیتوں کا اظہارناگزیر ہوتاہے۔کھیل کے میدان میں سفارش سے نہیں صلاحیتوں کے جوہر دکھانے سے نام اور جگہ بنتی ہے۔جامعہ کراچی میں اتنے بڑے اسپورٹس ایونٹ کا انعقاد لائق تحسین ہے جس پر میں ان ایونٹس شرکت اور مقابلہ جیتنے والی ٹیموں اور بالخصوص جامعہ کراچی کو مبارکباد پیش کرتاہوں۔ بین الاقوامی ہاکی پلیئر قمرابراہیم نے جیتنے والی ٹیموں کو مبارکباد دی اور ہارنے والی ٹیموں کوکہا کہ ہارنے سے ہمیں بہت کچھ سیکھنے کا موقع ملتاہے،ہمیں اپنی کمی اور غلطیوں کا احساس ہوتاہے۔جس طرح اسپورٹس میں اتارچڑھاؤ آتاہے اسی طرح زندگیوں میں بھی اتارچڑھاؤآتاہے اور اسپورٹس ہمیں اس سے نبرد آزماہونا سکھاتاہے۔ ڈائریکٹر جنرل اسپورٹس ہائرایجوکیشن کمیشن پاکستان جاوید علی میمن نے کہا کہ جامعہ کراچی کے زیر اہتمام ہونے والے انٹرڈیپارٹمنٹل اسپورٹس گالامیں 4500 طلباوطالبات کی شرکت اس بات کا ثبوت ہے کہ جامعہ کراچی اپنے طلباوطالبات کو نصابی سرگرمیوں کے ساتھ ساتھ غیر نصابی سرگرمیوں میں حصہ لینے کے بھی بھرپورمواقع فراہم کرتی ہے۔مجھے امید ہے کہ ایچ ای سی کے تعاون سے ہونے والی اسپورٹس سرگرمیوں میں جامعہ کراچی ہی سرفہرست ہوگی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ وفاقی ہائرایجوکیشن کمیشن جامعہ کراچی کو عصر حاضر کے جدید تقاضوں سے ہم آہنگ فٹبال گراؤنڈاورفٹبال اکیڈمی تعمیر کرکے دے رہی ہے جس کے تعمیراتی کام کا آغاز ہوچکا ہے، دوسرے مرحلے میں ریسورس سینٹر اورفزیالوجی لیب کا قیام عمل میں لایاجائے گا تو فٹنس کے مسائل سے دوچار ہونے والے کھلاڑیوں کے مسائل فی الفور حل کئے جاسکے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ اسپورٹس سرگرمیوں کو تعلیمی اداروں میں خاص طورپر فروغ دینے کا مقصد مستقبل کے لئے پڑھے لکھے کھلاڑی،کوچ،امپائر زاور کھیلوں سے وابستہ دیگر پرعہدوں پر پڑھے لکھے افراد کو لانا اور دیکھنا ہے جس کے پاکستان میں ہونے والی اسپورٹس کی سرگرمیوں پر مثبت اثرات مرتب ہوں گے۔میں جامعہ کراچی کو اتنے بڑے ایونٹ کے انعقاد پر مبارکباد پیش کرتاہوں۔ اسسٹنٹ ڈائریکٹر اسپورٹس ہائرایجوکیشن کمیشن پاکستان محمد آصف نے کہا کہ محنت آپ کو کسی بھی لیول پر مایوس نہیں کرتی،ہمارے پاس پلیئر کے انجرڈ ہونے پر کوئی پلان نہیں ہوتاجس کی وجہ سے بہت سارے پلیئر کا بین الاقوامی کیرئیرشروع ہونے سے قبل ہی اختتام پذیر ہوجاتاہے۔ ڈائریکٹر ڈائریکٹوریٹ آف فزیکل ایجوکیشن جامعہ کراچی ڈاکٹر باسط انصاری نے خطبہ استقبالیہ پیش کرتے ہوئے بتایاکہ اسپورٹس گالا2024 ء کا افتتاح 28 فروری کو ہوا جو 06 مارچ2024 ء تک جاری رہاجس میں 4500 طلباوطالبات نے حصہ لیا اور لڑکے اور لڑکیوں پر مشتمل کرکٹ کی 46 ٹیموں،فٹبال کی 28،بیڈمنٹن کی 42،باسکٹ بال کی 16،والی بال کی 16 اورایتھلیٹکس کی 08 ٹیموں نے حصہ لیا۔
