Elman Abdullayev presents Azerbaijan’s
statement at UNESCO session.

According to global Times news Agency Europe,Statements of the member countries have been announced within the 219th session of the UNESCO Executive Council.The Global Times Europe informs that Azerbaijan’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Elman Abdullayev, presented the national statement of Azerbaijan at today’s plenary session of the 219th session of the Executive Council. In the statement, Azerbaijan attached great importance to gender equality, Priority Africa and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
The permanent representative also informed about Azerbaijan’s candidacy for membership in the World Heritage Committee for 2025-2029.Touching on the impact of climate change on cultural heritage, Abdullayev noted that Azerbaijan actively contributes to the fight against climate change as a reliable and responsible member of the international community, and said that President Ilham Aliyev signed the decree on the declaration of 2024 as "Green World Solidarity Year” in the country. He pointed out that the unanimous support of Azerbaijan’s candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) is a clear example of the international community’s deep respect and trust in the country. During the 30-year-long Armenia’s aggression and occupation of Azerbaijani lands, the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan was completely destroyed, archaeological monuments, museums and libraries were looted and completely destroyed.Abdullayev spoke about the serious damage caused to the educational infrastructure of Azerbaijan as a result of the military aggression of Armenia against the country and emphasized that more than 2,000 educational institutions were destroyed.
Stating that after the liberation of Azerbaijani lands from occupation, large-scale reconstruction and restoration works were started by the country, the permanent representative added that the process of complete destruction of cultural heritage belonging to the Azerbaijani people by Armenia continues in this country.It was noted that all Azerbaijani toponyms were changed in Armenia, and the historical and cultural heritage, mosques and cemeteries of Azerbaijan were deliberately destroyed. The main goal of this vandalism is to completely erase the traces of Azerbaijanis who lived in those lands for centuries.
