DG NCHD Ali Asghar Meets IG Prisons Usman Mehsud to Discuss Inmate Welfare Initiatives.
Peshawar(Report by Fatima Jafar) According to global Times news agency Europe,Director General of the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD), Mr. Ali Asghar, met with Inspector General of Prisons, Mr. Usman Mehsud, today to explore areas of mutual interest aimed at benefiting inmates. During the meeting, Mr. Ali Asghar highlighted NCHD’s recent efforts in prison literacy, including the establishment of 16 literacy centers across the province. These centers currently enroll over 400 inmates, providing them with basic education to enhance their skills and future opportunities.IG Prisons Usman Mehsud welcomed the NCHD delegation and expressed gratitude for their literacy initiative. He assured full support for any future programs aimed at the welfare of prisoners. He also briefed the attendees on various ongoing initiatives, such as e-Mulaqat, skills enhancement programs, and prison industries, all designed to improve inmates’ rehabilitation and reintegration into society. The meeting was attended by NCHD Director Operations Anwar Iqbal, Deputy Director Shams Khan, and other team members, along with Additional IG Prisons Mr. Hashmat Ullah. Mr. Ali Asghar also presented a detailed progress report on the operational status of literacy centers in provincial prisons. This collaboration between NCHD and the Prisons Department marks a significant step toward improving educational and skill-based opportunities for inmates, ultimately contributing to their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
