According to global Times news Agency Europe, Belgian authorities have increased the security threat level for the Brussels-Capital Region to its highest level of four, and the suspect remains at large as of late Oct. 16. A rating of 4 indicates a serious or imminent threat. Authorities are asking those in Brussels to stay indoors. The Roi Baudouin/Koning Boudewijn and Heysel/Heizel metro stations are closed; additional station closures are being considered. As of late October 16, a manhunt for the suspect in connection to the shooting is currently ongoing.The Global Times Europe informs via foreign media that authorities made the decision following a terror attack at Boulevard d’Ypres/Ipeerlaan in Brussels that left at least two dead. Initial reports indicate that around 19:15, an unknown individual opened fire, killing two Swedish nationals; the victims were allegedly wearing Swedish football jerseys.The suspect reportedly claimed responsibility, claimed to have targeted Swedish citizens, and pledged allegiance to the Islamic State terror organization on social media.Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are almost certain throughout the Brussels-Capital Region until the situation is resolved. Additional attacks cannot be ruled out.
